You no longer need to be the suffering victim of noise. All you need to do is to complete and return the enclosed card. Our Mr Goodwin will then call whenever it is convenient for you to see him and discuss with you a plan to bring peace into your office. Meanwhile, he asks me to send you his compliments.

Sales letter appeal to sympathy

Dear Reader

You can walk — about the house, at your work, in the streets, in the country.
Yet this ability, which you take for granted, is denied to thousands of others — born crippled, or crippled in childhood by accident or disease. It is estimated that a deformed child is born, or a child is crippled by accident or disease every five minutes in Britain. This means that every day there can be 200 more crippled children.

It is the unfairness of it all that strikes one. Most of what is unfair in life is something we can do little about as individuals, but here is one grave inequality that everyone can help to put right.
